November Book of the Month

Our Book of the Month for November is “Curiosity: The Story of a Mars Rover.”

This book tells the story of the Curiosity rover (sent up in 2012) from the point of view of the rover.  This story follows the path from the idea, to building/creation of the rover, to the mission on Mars and the discoveries on the planet. The book has beautiful illustrations, interesting text features, and makes a great link to the current Perseverance rover that landed on Mars in Feb 2021 and has sent back some amazing images of the red planet. This book touches on many different science, technology, and engineering themes while also highlighting some beautiful literacy features!

We encourage you to visit the Reading Public Library or Whitelam Books and enjoy this great title.  Happy Reading!

October Book of the Month

The Reading Public Schools Learning & Teaching Team selected "Buzzing with Questions: The Inquisitive Mind of Charles Henry Turner" as our October Book of the Month.

Buzzing with Questions” is a biography of scientist Charles Henry Turner.  The story highlights the curiosity and dedication of Dr. Turner and his quest for understanding animal/insect behaviors.  It explores the challenges he faced as a black man in the south in academia in the 1800s/early 1900s.   This book is a beautiful way to touch upon many themes including significant messages about curiosity and learning, scientific method, biology, questioning, and more.

We encourage you to visit the Reading Public Library or Whitelam Books and enjoy this great title.  Happy Reading!
