Hour of Code 2020

Hour of Code is a learning event scheduled during the week of Computer Science Education week.  This week is scheduled on the anniversary of  Admiral Grace Murray Hopper's birthday, a pioneer in computer programming.

Over the last couple of years I have shared compiled links and resources to support and celebrate the many aspects of this week.  There are many great resources there and may be a good starting point for you - check out 2019 HERE, and 2018 HERE

You can also explore other great resources and events here:
  • NASA, Tynker, an CodeLab partner up to share coding activities. Sign up HERE
    • Our HoC CodeLab sessions will be LIVE on YouTube and a NASA expert will introduce each coding activity with insights about the actual science and engineering that goes behind it! A Tynker teacher will then walk your students through the coding activity.
  • Unplugged activities from code.org HERE.
  • Coding Choice Boards by Shannon McClintock Miller HERE
  • Minecraft Education Edition free 2020 Hour of Code activity HERE.
  • Check out CodeBytes - interactive minilessons HERE
    • Try a CodeByte! Designed to fit smoothly into a distance learning plan, CodeBytes are easy-to-digest, 20 minute interactive lessons that will stream during Computer Science Education Week, December 7-11.
  • Google for Education Computer Science activities and lessons HERE
  • Robotics and Beyond curated resources HERE
  • CodeHS resources & live offerings HERE
  • Check out this coding & early literacy resource HERE

Remember - as you've seen me post before... Teachers/Parents:  You don’t have to be an expert to allow your child opportunity to code. One of the best ways to get involved is to do it together!  Learn, explore, fail, adjust, try, revise, apply, analyze... the process is what builds the type of thinking we're supporting in our students as learners, explorers, and computer scientists.
